'Homespun Mythologies with textiles and mixed media'

Pantovola creates mythical, fairytale-esk stories with textiles, mixed media and painting.
She prefers to work with old materials such as antique fabrics, relics and special objects from her collection.
Magical, dream-like stories about Wolf witches, Moth Fairies, Swan Maidens and Forest Nymphs inhabiting misty, mythical landscapes
come to life as dolls, sculptures, dioramas and miniature-theatres.
There is a childlike naivety to Pantovola's creations,  yet it hides a somewhat darker shadow too;
An endless play between dark and light, nature and civilisation, day and night, life and death.

Ever since I can remember I have loved dolls and miniatures, dollhouses and theatres.
Through my art I bring these elements together, to create worlds within worlds, for myself to dream away into, and hopefully for you to feel enchanted by too.
Often my dolls and sculptures hold small secrets within;
 a diorama may be hidden in their chest,
or a miniature theatre appears from behind the drapes of an elaborate dress.
They tell fantastical tales from other realms and mysterious places, breathe a melancholy breath, their souls full of nostalgia, to bygone days, to an autumn past, a memory in dusk...
Through my Memento Mori pieces I explore themes around Death and the Eternal Spirit,
and with my small fabric Petit figurines I like to revisit the more naïve magic of childhood ...

Many moons ago I got my degree in Fine Arts from ArtEZ University of the Arts in Arnhem, Netherlands.
My background is in painting, illustration, stop motion puppet-animation-film and Theater.

My Art Dolls, Textile Art and mixed media Sculptures are held in private collections and exhibits worldwide.
