I like to think of dolls as companions, heirloom pieces, to be collected and kept safe, journeying with us through life and passed on from generation to generation.
Dolls are not just for children, I believe, but for anyone who has kept their childlike heart alive. My art dolls have traveled from the mythical realm and the hidden places to meet any such person with a nostalgic soul, longing to the old enchanted world in which imagination and fantasy reign. As a dollmaker I want to breathe something special, something unique, into each doll that I create. The story behind the character is of course of great importance, but also the materials I choose for their garments and dresses have to possess that certain quality that cannot be described in words persé… a perfect imperfection, an aged thread, a stain of time, a secret from a bygone era…
Precious stones, handwritten Victorian postcards and letters, dried flowers, bugs and beetles also find their way into some of the pieces. For the wigs of the dolls I like to use natural materials including mohair and alpaca wool
Now they would love to meet you; The Swan Maidens, Wood Nymphs and Faeries, Dusk Dwellers, Witches and Ghosts…
