La Loba
La Loba or Wolf Woman
In Mexican Folklore, La Loba is a Wild Woman who collects the bones of the animals and during ritual she brings them back to life.
This painting is my take on the tale, which I read in one of my favorite books:
Women Who Run With the Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estés
It shows the Wolf Woman standing in a body of water that streams of the hill, representing life.
On her right we see a little house that has its roots in the forest ground, feeding from the bones that are hidden under the soil.
From it’s chimney the spirits of the wolves are set free and they run wild through the sky and back into the woods.
