Victorian Mourning Doll – New Piece

gothic doll

“She Mourns with One Eye Open”

A new art doll inspire by the Victorian Mourning Art.

These conjoined sisters mourn the loss of their innocent heart.
They no longer sleep with eyes closed at the same time!

This art doll is made with mixed materials.
They carry a sacred heart in their hands,
which has been decorated with old bits of Indian textiles and beads.
On their chest a vintage crochet and a chest piece of braided hair,
inspired by the Mourning Art of the Victorian Era.
The ‘veil’ that falls down from the waist is a piece of stunning antique French lace,
in which I sewn some small gold/yellow beads.
Part of their face is clay on cloth, which has been crackled and varnished.
Their hands are made of clay and also crackled.
The sister’s hair is made with Teeswater fleece, chocolate brown and curly.
The piece measures 65 cm’s from the top of the head to the edge of the lace ‘veil’
and they hang from a string hook on their back
