New Shop New Designs

Dear all, I am super excited to announce I have finally finished creating my very own shop, (with the help of a computer super genius of course) My shop is now hosted on my own website, offering my ooak dolls and textile art sculptures. It took months of work to make it look as simple as it does, but I wanted it to be a ‘white space’ in which my art would really be able to shine. The new address of my official shop is now: http://www.pantovola.com/shop I am very happy with the result and I hope you will like…

fairytale dolls

the characters of dolls…

When making dolls, having an idea in my head is an obvious starting point.. I often don’t make sketches beforehand, as I like to just go along with where the stitches take me. But this way of working, I suppose, does allow for more radical changes to be made along the way of creating, and it is then, that the true personality of the dolls force their way through. I had a very specific idea for this here doll in progress above. I wanted her to become a lovely and warm, fuzzy woman, with big buns in her hair on…

“Precious” a film by Pantovola, Bright Side Studios and Alabaster de Plume

A year and some ago, I made a film with the marvelous Bright Side Studios and poet/musician Alabaster de Plume. The film was part of an installation during the Hidden Door Festival in Edinburgh, and we made the animation film to raise awareness about mental health issues and the isolating effects they can have. For the film we used the story of my sad clown Bragi, who cries tears made of pearls. A girl called Precious, collects these pearl tears and weaves them into necklaces. But the necklaces weigh heavy with melanholia and Precious tumbles into the pond… I made…

Fairytale picturebook in the making…

Hello! I hope you are all keeping warm and cozy. I just wanted to share a new project I am working on and am super excited about! It is something I have been wanting to do since childhood, which is to create a picture book of my wee tales, the same tales I have used for many of my dolls and textile pieces. Some of you have already pointed out this potential, for which I thank you, as it has been that push in the back I needed to just get started with it already This is the first illustration…

Sacred Winter Swan

Hello ! I have been working on a new swan doll ever since I left for my travels, and due to all the interruptions I never managed to finish her until now. So here is my new textile sculpture called The Sacred Winter Swan She is made of fabric entirely and is hand painted in pale coffee/pink Her feathers are hand cut and cover her needle sculpted wings and neck On her face I sewn in some delicate lace embroidery and silver sequins, and she wears a lace ruff around her neck. On her chest I made the swan a…

Dark Fairytales by Nadezhda Illarionova

This Sunday morning I am spending in bed mesmerizing over these beautifully magical and dark fairytale illustrations by Russian graphic designer and illustrator Nadezhda Illarionova.   It is strangely familiar looking at these images, having grown up with a Fairytales fanatic mother and grandmother, I was raised surrounded by fantastical tales, big books by H.C. Anderson and the Brothers Grimm filled with full page illustrations in which I could loose myself for an entire day. Even as a child I preferred Grimm to Disney, with nature and animals taking on powerful, often terrifyingly dark roles, taking its reader on a…

Custom Made Textile Swan doll

Good afternoon lovelies! Today I am shipping this textile swan art doll which I custom made for a customer. For her feathers I used antique lace from a gorgeous nightgown I once bought at an antiques market. The material is just so soft and with a gentle shine, it is perfect for feathers and such. I adorned the swan’s neck with lots of beads and lace and some embroidery. On it’s chest I sewn in a little vintage key, which was an idea of the lady who ordered this piece. If you would like to have a magical textile doll…
